The Catcher In the Rye

So far this book seems somewhat interesting. The writing style, stream of conciousness, seems to appeal to me. I like how holden is so sarcastic in his thoughts and how he is brilliant in his own way. I admit it is kind of hard to follow at some points, but the random dry humor brings you back to reading which makes it easier to follow. I'm sure it is one of those books that get better as you read.

  1. I agree with you. I believe that the sarcasm is where we can all relate with Holden. I think you are right about how all books get better as you read, maybe the stream-of-consiousness will get easier as we go.

  2. We are almost complete opposites on this subject. I dislike Holden a lot because of his sarcasm, and I actually find the stream of conciouusness writing easier to follow than a normal first person story because he thinks like I do. The one thing I agree with is that the book will get better

  3. This is very often not a "kind or like it" book. You usually love it or hate it. I you hate it, it's difficult to appreciate the genius of the complex character which is Holden. He is brillant in his humaness. If you follow that.

  6. I don't know if I like this book so far. A lot of people comment on your blog Aaron. Andy, that's just unneccessary...I don't know if I spelled that right, but The Catcher in the Rye is okay I guess. Yay for Stream-of-Consciousness.
